If you’re looking for a fun, challenging and rewarding experience, volunteer for a Habitat build. There’s an unending list of jobs on our construction site, so everyone, regardless of their skill level, is welcome.

While we are required by building codes to have licensed contractors do work on our electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, we always need help. Volunteers are needed for framing, putting insulation in, painting, and all types of finish work, including clean up and landscaping.

Age Requirements

There’s plenty to do, and there’s no age limit.

You must be at least 18 years old to work on all of the construction site jobs and to handle power tools. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need young hands to join us. If you’re 16 or 17, there are a variety of limited activities you can help with. If you’re 14 or 15, we need your help with activities like cleaning, organizing supplies and landscaping.

Kids under 14 can work with their families on making sure volunteers have water and snacks, cleaning up the sites and the neighborhood away from the actual construction.

There’s something for everyone.

Volunteer Shifts

It doesn’t matter if you sign up for a half day or a full day. We do appreciate the time you can give us. A half day shift begins a 9AM and ends around 12:30 PM. Full day shifts start at 9AM and go through until 4PM or until the work’s done.

Regular Volunteers

These are individuals who enjoy working with Habitat, they just can’t stay away. They’re also many of our Team Leaders. One of their most important jobs is to meet and greet new volunteers, make sure everyone has the safety equipment and tools that they need and provide leadership for small groups working on specific projets.

Individual Volunteers

If you want to learn a skill, get outside and meet new people, a Habitat build is for you. There’s no experience needed and we’ll provide safety equipment and tools.

Volunteer Teams – Name your job!

If you’ve got a special area of interest. If laying tile for Habitat is your idea of how to spend a Saturday morning or if trim carpentry lights up your life, let us know. We’ll make sure to put you on the proper team and let you know when the job you want to do is coming up and we can book your volunteer days.

Team Builds Days

If you want to provide your staff with an opportunity to build cooperation and develop their inter-personal skills, if you’re a social group that wants to work together on a project, then a “Team Builds Day” is for you. Team Build and sponsoring groups get scheduling priority.

We work with groups of 12-15 people, all from one company, sponsor or group. You will have the worksite to yourself for the day. We’ll provide tools, training, your own hard hats, t-shirts, a banner and plenty of photo ops for your group. In exchange, you’ll be working on specific pre-defined tasks.

Team Build Days are the way to give your group an opportunity to participate in an exciting program. Picture your group holding a banner that says “Team XYZ Builds for Habitat”.

We ask your organization makes a contribution to Summit Habitat which allows us to acquire the construction materials required for your day of building and those ever important t-shirts.

Contact the Executive Director at 970 453 7102 or via e-mail at executive director@summitcountyhabitat.org for details.

Important Reminder

Safety glasses are required for everyone on the job site.  Hard hats will be supplied for those working on the site.  You must wear closed toe shoes, bring your own gloves and sunscreen.  With Colorado’s quickly changing weather, we suggest you bring a light jacket.

Habitat job sites are alcohol, drug and smoke free.
